When the name you want is taken
Each username can belong to one account only. If your first choice is gone, Instagram suggests adding periods, underscores, numbers or an abbreviation to make a version that’s free. You can also run the generator again with a different keyword.
You can change your username later from Edit profile. In most cases you can switch back to a name you used before, as long as nobody has taken it since. On accounts that reach a lot of people the change may be reviewed first, and your followers may be notified.
